Family.

The very good people of mumstop.com asked me to write a family column, with a view to family life. Having always kept a diary it seemed appropriate to get with the times and do a blog.
Our family is like many others and of course by the very nature of families is also unique. We argue, raise our voices, make up and have a cuddle and laugh about it, all within a very short amount of time. Like many others around the country I guess.
We have had a fairly monumental thing happen recently in that one of our cats has died, Thelma has been with us for 14 years so it was a real and quite suprising to me, upsetting event. My partner and I had Thelma and Louise before our own children so losing one has been not only very sad, but has brought back memories of life pre my 7 and 8 year old. Where has that carefree person I once liked to think I was gone ? Although I do have 3 step children they were not here all the time, that is until the older one came to live with us age 14.
Anyway we buried Thelmas ashes today and that has led to conversations about cremation and burial which is all natural stuff but tricky. Jasper, my little boy was sure her eyes would be in that box of ashes ! We have planted some dafodils on the spot at the moment, and will have to come up with something more permanent and fitting in the spring.
We have had a nice half term though, with the kids being as excited about halloween as Xmas. I know people say its so American but the kids love to dress up. Esme was what she called a zombie bride but more strange was Jaspers idea of an axe murderer, he made his own outfit though so i guess he is getting the credit crunch idea.
We did the usual round the block trick or treating with friends, came back and had some food and wine. Bit too much wine for me but I wont go there today.
Anyway back to work and school tommorow, best I iron us some clothes.
